Weed Instead of Roses

Being a Country fan in any other Country than the USA is hard enough, but when you’re a Country fan in the UK radio and broadcast is all very limited so many times we miss certain artists or songs that are capturing the heat over in Nashville. We do get the odd little gem on the National Radio service, like Girl Crush and any Zac Brown Band song, but we fail to get the blossoming stars over here and that’s a shame as we are missing out on so much. Many of these artists have become inspirations of mine in the past few months, with many I’d love to sit down and write with, let alone just talk to.

One particular star I’d like to focus on is an artist who is now one of my favourite songwriters and a talented performer. She is one third of the Pistol Annies and I had the pleasure of meeting her briefly and watching her perform 3 times over the C2C Festival this year. Ashley Monroe has 3 superb albums and some of the catchiest lyrics you will ever here. Songs like Weed Instead of Roses, Like a Rose and her whole album “The Blade” shows a mature songwriter with a talent for telling a great story.

Her albums really do make up the perfect playlist and she really belongs on any Country music must-have list. You will be doing yourself a favour if you go and give her a listen! If i was ever lucky enough for her to read this, I can only pray she gets in touch for a co-write, she is a true Country artist!
